Savouring Europe - Romania (Transylvania)

The Carpathian Mountains are the location of Robert Golden’s food-themed brand of tourism. Be inspired to visit Romania and sample the culinary offerings of one of the wildest parts of Europe, the Carpathian Mountains, where bears and wolves still roam the forests. We see a cook in a Count's kitchen creating pastry and breads to centuries-old recipes and watch as locals toast a pig killing by raising a glass of home-made fruit brandy. A typical Romanian meal can consist of starters of cheeses, cold cuts and vegetables, before meatball, vegetable or tripe soup is served. The fish course could be Black Sea sturgeon or grilled herring. Meat stews flavoured with spices are likely to be followed by range of desserts, from doughnuts filled with sour cream and fruit to sweet bread filled with walnuts, poppy seeds and cream cheese.
