Jim Davidson has lead a colourful and controversial life and provided excellent fodder for the tabloids over the years with his tempestuous marriages, bankruptcy and close-to-the-knuckle stand-up shows. He has been a keen Conservative party supporter and has regularly entertained British troops in war zones. Say what you like about him, but he’s not been boring. In this popular sitcom which ran from 1983-85, Jim plays Jim London, a young scallywag who gets into all types of problems with the law and spends most of his time boozing down the Freemasons Arms and chasing women. Up the Elephant and Round the Castle also starred Sue Nicholls, later to play Audrey Roberts in Coronation Street. Jim Davidson’s other TV successes include The Jim Davidson Show, Big Break and The Generation Game.
