It’s quite a shock for Joan and Eddie Booth when Barbie and Bill Reynolds, a West Indian couple, move in as their next-door neighbours. It’s not long before the clash of cultures leads to antagonism between the two men. Love Thy Neighbour was an extremely popular ‘70s sitcom that poked fun at the bigoted opinions of the clueless Eddie and his doomed attempts to show up his black neighbour, invariably with comic results. In this episode, everyone stay calm! When Eddie, Bill, Arthur and Jacko are stuck together in a lift, there is bound to be a born leader among them who will take charge of the situation and lead them to safety. Maybe not. Perhaps instead we should think of Lord of the Flies, except in a lift with supposedly grown men. Who’s going to crack first?
