Bless This House - Series 4 - Ep1

This popular 1970s British sitcom is centred on life in Birch Avenue, Putney, where travelling stationery salesman Sid Abbott (Sid James) and his wife Jean (Diana Coupland) live with their teenage children, Mike and Sally. Mike is more concerned with protests than finding a job and Sally is a trendy schoolgirl. Their neighbours and best friends are Trevor and his wife, Betty. Episode 1, Money is the Root of…, brings a flash from the past for Sid who can only remember Gertie Adams as “an old lady, bald and bent double”. However, whatever happened between them in Wapping in 1942 was enough for her to remember him in her will. Bless This House ran from 1971 to 1976; series four was made in 1974. In 2004 it was listed at number 67 in the 100 greatest-ever British sitcoms.
