Dominion: Prequel to Exorcist

The most controversial horror movie in cinema history, The Exorcist, has spawned various prequels and sequels. Dominion can justly lay claim to being the movie that most closely captures the intelligence and sense of pervasive evil of the original masterpiece. In Holland, 1944, parish priest Father Lankester Merrin (Stellan Skarsgard) has his faith shattered by retreating Nazis when they force him to pass life and death judgement on his parishioners. Three years later, Merrin is working as an archaeologist in British East Africa and unearths a forbidding Byzantine church that contains elaborate mosaics depicting the battle between archangels Michael and Lucifer. The discovery of satanic artifacts leads to civil unrest and the possession of a local boy. Father Merrin must rediscover his faith as the situation becomes ever more disturbing and sinister.
