Mystic River

Jimmy Markum (Sean Penn), Sean Devine (Kevin Bacon) and Dave Boyle (Tim Robbins) are former childhood pals who are brought together again following the murder of Jimmy’s daughter. Sean is the police detective in charge of the case and has to manage an increasingly tense and potentially explosive situation. Dave is suspected of the murder, and Jimmy becomes increasingly frustrated and bent on revenge. As the drama unfolds we begin to see how a horrific episode in Jimmy’s past – abduction and sexual abuse at the hands of two men – impacts on the events of the present. Clint Eastwood further proves his directorial credentials in this sensitive, Oscar-winning examination of adulthood scarred by an abusive past. Based on the acclaimed novel by Dennis Lehane, the accomplished screenplay is adapted by the author himself and LA Confidential’s Brian Helgeland.
