The Matrix

Directed by the Wachowski brothers, this science fiction epic changed the face of action movies and introduced western audiences to the concept of ‘bullet-time' (hyper slow-motion). Keanu Reeves stars as Neo, a discontented hacker who is contacted by Morpheus the leader of an underground resistance movement. Morpheus has some news for Neo – the world he knows is a computer simulation known as the Matrix. It's been created by machines to keep humanity docile while they are drained as energy units. The freedom fighters in the real world that Neo enters consider him the last hope in the war against the machines. He is the chosen one able to manipulate the Matrix at will. But Neo doesn’t feel particularly privileged and his efforts to overcome the agents the machines have placed into the Matrix seem doomed to failure…
